10. Follow Pre-Surgery Instructions

Your doctor might have instructed you to forgo contact lenses or makeup the week before your surgery, but he or she may not have explained exactly why and how serious the consequences are if you ignore this advice. Contacts alter the shape of the cornea and you want it to be in its natural shape before surgery. Also, makeup, lotions, or perfume residue can increase the risk of infection post-surgery–and you do NOT want to deal with that!
